Veterans Treatment Court
The Clayton County Veterans Treatment Court is a therapeutic court with programs designed to provide essential substance abuse and/or mental health treatment services to eligible defendants with qualifying criminal charges who also have documented substance abuse and/or mental health diagnosis related to their military service by utilizing judicial oversight through enhanced supervision and individual accountability.
Eligibility criteria includes being a Clayton County resident, having a qualifying criminal offense and having served in the United States Military.
Operation of the Clayton County Veterans Treatment Court is presided over by Judge Robert L. Mack Jr. with close collaboration from, the District Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s Office, Probation and licensed Treatment professionals.
It is the mission of the Clayton County Veterans Treatment Court to provide an interagency, collaborative, and non-adversarial treatment strategy for veterans in the criminal justice system.
The program lasts a minimum of 18 months and involves mental health and substance abuse treatment, weekly court appearances with the Judge, probation supervision, and payment of mandatory fees.
