Programs

We don’t just work our inmates at the Clayton County Prison. We care about them, too. We recognize that there are many inmates that make mistakes and would simply like to have a second chance. This is why the Prison offers various programs and services designed to self-improve, rehabilitate and correct. Among these programs and services are:

Programs and Services Offered

GED

The majority of inmates in the system do not have a high school diploma. In order to gain meaningful employment on the outside it is critical that inmates obtain a GED while on the inside. In order to meet federal requirements, classes are conducted bi-weekly by the Clayton County Department of Adult Education. Eligible inmates are tested by the instructors in order to determine their beginning grade level. The GED exam is administered to qualified students twice a year. We are proud to mention that the Clayton County Prison boasts a high graduation rate.

M4C Substance Abuse

This is a Georgia Department of Corrections’ sanctioned group that meets their minimum Substance Abuse Requirement. This five-week course informs inmates how to change their thinking process concerning abuse issues. The group meets once a week.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)

Alcoholics Anonymous is a weekly group sponsored by certified volunteers. The AA sponsors follow the 12-Step program established by the AA organization.

Re-Entry

This program is facilitated as part of the State of Georgia Governors’ Office of Transition, Support & Re-Entry. This 12-session class prepares inmates for transition back into society. Sessions include obtaining proper identification, housing, budgets, preparing job applications/resumes, obtaining transportation, living under supervision and other related topics. The group meets once a week.

Religious Programs

The Clayton County Prison offers religious programming to our inmate population. Certified volunteers from area churches conduct services each weekend. Also, inmates are afforded the opportunity to conduct self-studies as well. Religious materials available from counseling staff are various Bibles, tracts and books. If inmates desire visitation by their pastor, arrangements must be made through the counseling staff.

Individual & Group Counseling

The facility has Counseling staff available. They perform daily case management duties, facilitate various self-help groups, conduct scheduled conferences with the inmate population, assist in crisis management, and assist inmates with other incarceration related issues.

Programs

The Clayton County Prison has partnered with Southern Crescent Technical College to teach welding and forklift training programs.
