I New Weapon Carry Permit Applications
Weapons Carry Applications are accepted Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00AM and 3:00PM. No applications will be accepted after 3:00PM.
1. Prior to appearing in person at the Probate Court, you must complete the application online by clicking here: Online Weapons Carry License Application. Make note of your application confirmation number.
2. Upon completion of the online application, you must appear in person at the Clayton County Probate Court during the hours of 8:00AM and 3:00PM, Monday through Friday to complete the application process. Be sure to bring the proper documentation, which includes:
If you are a citizen but were not born in the US you will have to bring additional citizenship documentation.
Non-expired Georgia Driver’s License with your current Clayton County address
In addition, you will need:
$30.00 for the permit application, which is acceptable in the form or cash, check or credit card. A processing fee will apply to all credit/debit card payments.
Because of the pandemic, we are not able to conduct fingerprinting at this time; therefore, you will be sent to an off-site location. The fee for fingerprinting, in the amount of $51.50, can only be accepted in the form of a debit or credit card. Registration for fingerprinting must be completed after processing your Weapons Carry Permit application in person at the Clayton County Probate Court. II Renewal Weapon Carry Permit Applications
APPLICANTS FOR RENEWAL LICENSES:
Those renewing their Weapons Carry Licenses are encouraged to do so by mail. The instructions for both the (A) Renewal Process in Person and the (B) Renewal Process by Mail are listed below. It will be necessary to print the Weapons Carry License Application to begin your online Weapons Carry Application by clicking here: Online Weapons Carry License Application, you must follow all the steps below to complete the process.
Please remember that if you are more than 30 days past your expiration date, you are no longer eligible to renew and must complete a new application.
You may not renew your license more than 90 days before the expiration date.
If you are a citizen but were not born in the US you will have to bring additional citizenship documentation.
A. Renewal in Person
YOU MUST HAVE A PERMIT THAT IS NOT EXPIRED OR IS RECENTLY EXPIRED TO BE ELIGIBLE.

Upon completion of the online application, you must appear in person at the Clayton County Probate Court during the hours of 8:00AM and 3:30PM, Monday through Friday to complete the application process. Upon arrival, you will check in at the desk and give the clerk your confirmation number, your non-expired Government issued photo ID showing your current Clayton County address, and your self-addressed, stamped envelope. (Otherwise, you will be charged an additional $2.00 mailing fee.) Be advised that a processing fee will apply to all credit/debit card payments.
B. Renewal by Mail
YOU MUST HAVE A PERMIT THAT IS NOT EXPIRED OR IS RECENTLY EXPIRED TO BE ELIGIBLE.
Print and complete all forms listed below. Complete each one in its entirety and have the applications notarized. Return all documents by mail with the proper payment along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
7. A copy of your current unexpired or recently expired Weapons Carry Permit.

III Replacement Weapon Carry Permit
REPLACEMENT PROCESS BY MAIL
YOU MUST HAVE A PERMIT THAT HAS NOT EXPIRED TO BE ELIGIBLE.
If you have a valid permit in Clayton County issued by Clayton County and it was lost, stolen or requires an amendment, you may obtain a replacement by mail. Print and complete all forms listed below and mail them in.If your permit was lost or stolen, you must include a detailed police report. VI New vs Renewal?
If your most recent Weapons Carry License has been expired for more than 30 days, you must reapply for a new license.
You may renew your current Weapons Carry License as early as 90 DAYS prior to the expiration date and no later than 30 days after the expiration date.
You must present your current Weapons Carry License when you are renewing.
Please note: Clayton County Probate Court is NOT a GAPS (Georgia Applicant Processing Service) location. Clayton County Probate Court can only process fingerprint background requests for Clayton County residents applying for their Georgia Weapons Carry License.
