Edward L. Taylor Jr. is a native of Chicago, Illinois. He and his wife, Margaretta have made their home in Jonesboro, GA since November 2000. They have five adult children and five grand-children. He received his BA in business management from University of Louisiana. Ed moved to Jonesboro after retiring from active duty with over 21 years of service in the United States Army. While in the military, he has served in numerous leadership positions. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Signal Non-Commissioned Officer Advanced Course, U.S. Army First Sergeants Course, U.S. Army Battle Staff Course, U.S. Army Instructor Certification Course, U.S. Air Force Air Cargo Load Planners Certification Course. His last two positions held were as a Signal Company First Sergeant for HHD 36th Signal Battalion, Taegu, Korea, and final assignment as an Instructor-Writer and Training & Operations NCOIC at the Regimental Officer Academy, Fort Gordon, GA.
His awards and decorations include, the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Expert Marksman Badge for rifle and pistol and the Safe Drivers Badge;
Ed has previously worked as a branch manager for Wachovia Bank, BB&T and the First National Bank of Griffin and now currently serves as a Clayton County Business Banker / Branch Manager with Heritage Bank in Forest Park, GA.
His community involvement has consisted of the following: Board of Directors for the Heritage Foundation 2018-2021; Board Member/Secretary for the Forest Park Downtown Development Authority 2018-2022; Member/Secretary for the Forest Park Urban Redevelopment Authority 2018-2022; Member of the Forest Park Business Coalition; Member of Clayton County Chamber Partners Committee 2018-2020; Participates in the Morrow Business Connections and Forest Park H.S. PTSA Committee. Ed is a Membership Chair/Member of the Rotary Club of Lake Spivey / Clayton County and a member of the Raymond Bennett Military Masonic Lodge #33, Oklahoma Jurisdiction. Ed has previously served as a member of the City of Hampton Business and Merchants Association; A Partner in Education with Luella Middle School; Annual Sponsor for Henry County NAACP; Annual Supporter of the Henry County Council on Aging Miles for Meals Walk; A former member of the Henry County Chamber Ambassadors Committee who was recognized as the “2016 Ambassador of the Year”.
Ed serves as a staff musician (bass guitar player) for Trees of Righteousness Christian Fellowship in Hampton, GA. During his off time, he enjoys song writing, recording and producing music.
