Dr. Anthony Wayne Smith
Dr. Anthony Wayne Smith began his career in education after serving honorably in the United States Air Force for nine years and working in the banking industry for three years. His desire to become a change agent in the field of education led him to a position teaching Computer Technology in Clayton County Public Schools. After Spending four years in the classroom, Dr. Smith’s leadership skills and talents propelled him into an Assistant Principal position in Fayette County at Starr’s Mill High School. Dr. Smith then returned to Clayton County as a middle school Assistant Principal. He then advanced to the role of Principal of a middle school and later a high school, until he was promoted to a Central Office level position. After successfully serving in Central Office, he was given the opportunity to serve as Assistant Superintendent of middle schools. Dr. Smith was later tapped to become an Area Superintendent and served in that role for the past seven years, until his recent promotion to the position of Deputy Superintendent, a position in which he provides direct support to the Superintendent.
Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, as well as fishing, boating, skiing and golfing. In all that he does, his goal is always to serve students to ensure they are prepared for the future. He comes from a long line of family members that have served in the military. His father served in the Navy during the Korean War in which he served on the world famous Midway as an Aviation Technician. His father-in-law served in the Army and spent two tours of duty in Vietnam, rising to the rank of Command Sergeant Major. Dr. Smith’s son also served in the Air Force, serving two tours in Afghanistan. Dr. Smith had the privilege of serving in the Gulf war. He is proud of his military service and considers himself a great patriot to this wonderful Nation.
