(Jonesboro) The Clayton County Office of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) hosted a leadership training seminar for its senior-level leadership team at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center in Jonesboro. Internationally renowned author, speaker, and coach Greg Gray spoke to an audience of county commissioners, judges, department heads, and other senior managers on how to successfully navigate various situations that could challenge their abilities to lead effectively.

Gray is the founder and president of the Atlanta-based Renaissance Unlimited, Inc. a professional leadership firm, and author of Getting There & Staying There-The People Side of Sustained Operational Excellence. Greg Gary has worked to improve organizational relationships and delivery of services with the understanding that the change or “shift” must first come from the top.

Richa Adhikari, Ph.D. Strategy and Performance Management Analyst with the Office of the COO was part of the team that brought Gray in to speak to the group of leaders and felt that everyone took away some nugget of knowledge that they could both share and implement in the workplace. “As Gray stated, our greatest opportunities are accomplished through establishing relationships with people.” Dr. Adhikari went on to add, “In order to achieve and maintain good relationships, we must ensure our leaders have a solid understanding of what quality customer service and effective communication should look like in their respective areas and throughout the county. From that, we will continue to improve upon our relationships and interactions with Clayton County citizens, businesses, and stakeholders.”

Presenting this form of advance training to the county’s leadership team that Gray has developed, is part of the bigger “shift” initiative that the COO’s office has undertaken. Their objective is to ensure that the county’s diverse senior management staff is well informed and trained in a vested leadership structure that creates a culture of sustainability and accountability within the workplace.

For over 30 years, Gray has worked with professionals from private and public sectors, offering them instructional leadership and service interaction skills in order to elevate their organization to the next level of service excellence. As Clayton County continues to move forward with this new cultural shift in county government, leaders are optimistic that additional training and programs such as Gray’s will not only challenge but work to empower and grow the county in a positive new direction.
