Clayton County District Attorney Tasha M. Mosley announces the conviction of Brandon Shorter. On August 25, 2023, a Clayton County jury returned a guilty verdict against Brandon Shorter for: Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and 6 counts of Violation of Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.

During the trial, the State presented evidence showing the victim Yusef Surajudeen, picked up 3 black males from Crestmont Ct and drove the passengers to a residence on Flint River Rd. Prior to exiting the vehicle, all 3 subjects revealed guns and proceeded to rob Mr. Surajudeen. The victim informed police, he did not get a good look at the suspects as they were wearing mask however, he did note they were young between the ages of 16-17 years old. The victim was able to provide police with the phone number the suspects used to request the taxi. Information obtained from the taxi company, was used to identify Brandon Shorter as a possible suspect.

On January 3, 2020, Detective Moore interviewed the defendant Brandon Shorter in the presence of his father and grandmother. During the interview, Shorter admitted 2 co-defendants and himself were involved in the armed robbery. Shorter also confirmed all three males presented a gun during the robbery. Instagram records would show, the defendant tried to sell the same model iPhone 7 that was stolen from the victim on Instagram. Police also learned from Shorter’s Instagram records that he is the leader of a criminal street gang named BDA (Bout Dat Action) a claimed affiliate to the Bloods.

Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Corey Mitchell led the State’s case with Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Kimberly Myers serving as second chair. Investigator Chad Watkins and Victim Advocate Nerissa Sims played vital roles in the prosecution of this case. The trial began on August 21, 2023 and concluded on August 25, 2023.

Clayton County Senior Superior Court Judge Albert B. Collier presided over the trial and will sentence the defendant on August 30, 2023, at 11am. The defendant faces a maximum sentence of life in prison with parole plus 60 years.

District Attorney Mosley stated, “Once again, justice has been served and we hope the citizens of Clayton County can rest easier knowing that we have removed a violent offender from our community. As always, my office continues to work tirelessly on behalf of all Clayton County citizens.”
