Concrete Pole Removal to Close Portion of Hwy 54 in Clayton County

Motorists should expect delays

WHAT: Weather permitting, Georgia Power crews will close a portion of Hwy 54 at Thomas Road in Clayton County for concrete pole removal. The utility pole removal will be completed in three phases. This closure is in conjunction with the Hwy 54 widening and reconstruction in Clayton and Fayette counties.

WHEN: Tuesday, February 19th through Thursday, February 21, nightly from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

WHERE: Hwy 54 between Thomas Road and Corinth Road.

DETOUR: Traffic on Hwy 54 heading eastbound will be directed to turn left onto Corinth Road; turn right onto Hwy 85. Continue on Hwy 85 and turn right onto Point South Parkway/Flint River. Motorists will then turn right on Thomas Road and continue back to Hwy 54.

Traffic on Hwy 54 heading westbound will be directed to turn left onto Mundy’s Mill Road; turn right onto Tara Blvd then make a right onto McDonough Road and continue back to Hwy 54.

Advisory: Advanced warning signs will be placed on Hwy 54 eastbound and westbound prior to the intersections of Corinth Rd. and Mundy’s Mill Rd. Motorists are urged to be alert to the signage and to lower their speeds if unfamiliar with the detour route. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions.
