Commissioner Felicia Franklin Hosts Pedestrian Safety Town Hall
(Clayton County, GA)- Following Commissioner Franklin’s formal request to the Clayton County Federal & State Delegation for funding for pedestrian and motorist safety improvements, Commissioner Felicia Franklin of the Clayton County Board of Commissioners will host a Town Hall on August 5, 2021, focusing on pedestrian safety.
The Town Hall will be a continuation of the Smart Pedestrian Planning Project initiative hosted by Clayton County on July 22, 2021. Through a partnership with Georgia Tech and partially funded by the Atlanta Regional Commission, the Smart Pedestrian Planning Project allows Clayton County to envision, explore, and plan for a future that includes “Smart Mobility” and “Smart Pedestrian Access.”
As yet more families mourn the loss of loved ones due to the lack of adequate lighting, continuous sidewalks, and safe crosswalks, Commissioner Felicia Franklin has made it her mission to push for improved road, motorist, and pedestrian safety for Clayton County’s vulnerable road users. As of Sunday, July 25, 2021, five additional lives have been lost on Clayton County roads bringing the total count to 31 fatalities on Clayton County roadways in 2021.
Commissioner Franklin is thankful to the community for coming together on the critical issues of safety on our roads. Because of the community’s support, GDOT (Georgia Department of Transportation) has committed some emergency funding to implement some additional changes to 19/41. However, there is still more work to do. Commissioner Franklin urges Clayton County residents to keep sounding the alarm.
“I need your help as we continue to push for funding for continuous sidewalks, crosswalks, and lighting,” said Commissioner Franklin. View the presentation from the Tuesday, July 26th Board of Commissioners Work Session here.
Commissioner Franklin’s Town Hall will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at 6 pm at South Clayton Recreation Center, 1837 McDonough Road, Hampton, GA. The meeting will also be available via zoom https://tinyurl.com/claytond3townhall.
Representatives from the Atlanta Regional Commission, Georgia Tech, Pedestrian Safety Project, and Clayton County Transportation & Development will be present.
