Clayton County to Host a Career Fair

(Clayton County, GA)-Clayton County District 1 Commissioner Dr. Alieka Anderson in partnership with Clayton County Building and Maintenance Department will host a career fair on Friday, April 22, 2022, at the Carl Rhodenizer Recreation Center, 3499 Rex Rd., Rex, GA 30273, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. The career fair is open to the public, specifically for skill trade professionals and students.

Local high schools, colleges, and universities are encouraged to attend. Participants will have the opportunity to apply and interview for open positions onsite.

“We recognize there is a growing demand for these types of jobs and careers,” said Dr. Alieka Anderson. “Whether it is now or 20 years from now, there will always be a need for electricians, carpenters, contractors, and other jobs alike. Additionally, it is important to expose students to the various career opportunities available to them.”

According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (February 2022) Employment Statistics Highlights Report, the following occupations saw significant increases:

Construction added 60,000 Jobs (concentrated in specialty trade contractors)
Transportation and Warehousing added 48,000 Jobs
Manufacturing added 36,000 Jobs

“Currently, the county has approximately 30 open positions in the Building and Maintenance, Transportation and Development/Fleet Maintenance, and Central Services departments,” said Building and Maintenance Director Benjamin Hopkins. “Our goal is not only to hire qualified, forward-thinking professionals, but to also close the skills gap.”
