Clayton County Parks and Recreation Operations Update: Lifeguards Wanted
(Clayton County, GA)-Due to a critical shortage of lifeguards at all Clayton County Parks and Recreation facilities, the use of the pool is limited to swim lessons and aqua exercise classes. Registration is closed for these classes because they have reached capacity.
The Steve Lundquist Aquatic Center at the Jim Huie Recreation Center, 9045 Tara Blvd., Jonesboro, GA 30236, and Lake Spivey Recreation Center, 2300 Walt Stephens Road, Jonesboro, GA 30236, are the only two facilities open for lap swim. The hours of operation are subject to change without notice. Patrons are encouraged to contact the recreation facilities at 678.479.5133 (Jim Huie/Steve Lundquist) and 770.347.0390 (Lake Spivey) to confirm hours of operation.
“We apologize for any inconvenience, but it is absolutely critical that our facilities are appropriately staffed and maintain safety standards,” said Chief Operations Officer Detrick Stanford.
The Clayton County Parks and Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for lifeguards. Applicants for the lifeguard positions will not be charged to take the Red Cross Certified Training Course.
“Serving as a lifeguard is a commendable job that can truly make a difference in potential life-threatening and non-life-threatening situations,” said Parks and Recreation Director Troy Hodges. “Fully certified lifeguards are essential to the safety of our customers as well as the overall operations of our swimming facilities. Additional facilities that offer open swim will be announced as the number of hired/certified lifeguards increase.
The county’s newly reconstructed Spivey Splash Water Park, which is located inside Clayton County International Park, 2300 Highway 138, is open Tuesday-Sunday at 2300 Highway 138, Jonesboro, GA 30236. For information about the hours of operation, prices, directions, and season pass options, access http://www.claytonparks.com/spivey-splash/.
If you are interested in applying for a lifeguard position, access the Human Resources link located at www.claytoncountyga.gov, to submit an application.
