Inauguration Ceremony and Service Events for
Chairwoman Dr. Alieka Anderson-Henry
(Clayton County, GA) – The Inauguration of the first African-American female chairwoman elected to the Clayton County Board Commissioners, Chairwoman Dr. Alieka Anderson-Henry, is Fri., Jan. 3, 2025, at 4 p.m. The Inauguration will be held at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center, 2530 Mt. Zion Pkwy, Jonesboro, GA 30236.
Chairwoman Dr. Anderson-Henry is known by citizens of Clayton County as a teacher, advocate, and leader. She was sworn in on Tues., Dec. 31, 2024.
“I am deeply honored and humbled to serve the residents of Clayton County as their newly elected Chairwoman, ” said Dr. Anderson-Henry. “This victory is not just mine, it belongs to every person who believes in the promise of rising up and moving Clayton County forward. Now, the real work begins. Together, we will build a community where every voice is heard, every opportunity is accessible, and every dream is possible.”

Chairwoman Dr. Alieka Anderson-Henry has previously served the citizens of Clayton County in her role as District 1 Commissioner of the Clayton County Board of Commissioners and the Clayton County Board of Education District 8. Additionally, she served as the Vice Chair of the Board of Education and Chairwoman from 2008-2010. During her time as Chairperson for the Clayton County Board of Education, her leadership, innovative governance, and development of policies and procedures helped Clayton County Public Schools regain accreditation. Dr. Anderson-Henry holds an Ed. D. in (K-12) Educational Leadership from Agrosy University. She also earned a Master of Arts in instruction and a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education with experience as a teacher and as a K-12 administrator, elementary school teacher, assistant principal, and K-2 Literacy Coach in the Clayton County School System.
Dr. Anderson-Henry is a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Traveler’s Rest Baptist Church in Morrow, GA, and a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. She has one son, Brian Covington Jr.
