The Clayton County Behavioral Health Accountability Court (CCBHAC) Graduates Three Participants and Holds Stakeholder’s Meeting

CCBHAC Program Supports Individuals with Mental Health Diagnoses in the Criminal Justice System

Jonesboro, GA, January 17, 2025 – Nearly five years ago, the Clayton County Behavioral Health Accountability Court (CCBHAC) was launched with the goal of providing a compassionate, alternative response to individuals charged with felonies and diagnosed with mental health conditions. This program was designed to offer participants a pathway to rehabilitation, connecting them with the care and support necessary to reintegrate into society successfully.

As we celebrate this important milestone, we are pleased to announce the graduation of three participants, marking a significant achievement in their journey toward recovery and reintegration. The continued success of the CCBHAC is a result of the tireless collaboration of local agencies, mental health professionals, court legal teams, and community organizations. Together, they have made a lasting positive impact, providing opportunities for rehabilitation instead of incarceration. We are also grateful for the ongoing support of the Clayton County Board of Commissioners.

“We are proud of the progress we have made over the last five years, and we look forward to continuing our work to create a more equitable and effective system for individuals with mental health needs,” said Judge Malone. “The CCBHAC program has proven that with the right support and collaboration, individuals can overcome significant challenges and lead successful, productive lives.”

The CCBHAC Program serves as a model for the power of community partnerships and the crucial need to address mental health within the criminal justice system. Moving forward, the program remains committed to expanding its reach and enhancing its impact, ensuring even more individuals in need receive the support they deserve.

About CCBHAC: The mission of the Clayton County Behavioral Health Accountability Court (CCBHAC) is to provide a court-supervised program for adult offenders suffering from severe and persistent mental illness, including those with co-occurring disorders. The court aims to improve public safety by reducing recidivism rates among people with mental illness, lowering corrections costs by offering an alternative to incarceration, and improving the quality of life for individuals with mental health conditions. By connecting participants to treatment and preventing re-involvement in the criminal justice system, CCBHAC works to foster healthier communities, regardless of race, gender, religion, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, health, or ability.
