Board Opts Out of GA House Bill 581 in Favor of Local Option
(Clayton County, GA) – The Clayton County Board of Commissioners voted to opt of House Bill 581 at a special-called Board of Commissioners meeting held Thurs., Feb. 20, 2025, in line with Resolution 2025-36, which must be filed with the Secretary of State by the deadline, March 1, 2025.
Through Resolution 2025-37, the Clayton County Board of Commissioners also approved the submission of a local act to the General Assembly for the 2025 legislative session which, if passed, will allow citizens to vote for an adjusted base year ad valorem homestead exemption for disabled veterans, un-remarried surviving spouses of a peace officer or firefighter killed in the line of duty, 100% disabled residents and residents of Clayton County who own and occupy residences and are over age 65.
