Clayton County DUI/Drug Court is a four phase intervention program for adults who have pleaded guilty or been convicted of one or more DUI or drug offenses and who are having difficulty staying clean and sober. It is a collaborative effort between the State Court, Solicitor General's Office, defense attorneys, police agencies, probation and drug treatment programs. DUI/Drug Court involves frequent court appearances, random drug testing, as well as group and individual counseling. The Court combines increased supervision and accountability with effective and intensive treatment, thereby reducing recidivism. The Court awards incentives for compliant behavior and imposes sanctions for negative behavior.
The Solicitor's role is to ensure that each eligible offender is referred to DUI/Drug Court, to present each case to the Judge and facilitate entry into the DUI/Drug Court Program. The Solicitor also attends staffing to discuss possible candidates for the program and to determine appropriate sanctions and incentives for current participants.
Gaining insight into yourself, learning to deal with peers and authority figures and living a sober, law-abiding life is a sure sign of positive change. One way to reinforce such positive behaviors is to share your knowledge with others. To that end, those who successfully complete this program will have the opportunity to return to be mentors to those still in the program.
The Mission of the Clayton County DUI/Drug Court is to enhance public safety and promote healthier lifestyles for substance abusing repeat offenders. By working together, we seek to provide a variety of programs with intensive, consistent supervision geared toward supporting and helping you maintain an alcohol and drug free life.
