NOTICE OF CLAYTON COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS AND REGISTRATION ABSENTEE BALLOT DROP BOX

DATE: May 14, 2020

Notice is hereby given that Clayton County Board of Elections & Registration has installed an Official Ballot Drop Box, so that voters can return Absentee Ballots contact-free. The drop box is available at the following location:

Voters are encouraged to vote by Absentee Ballot for the June 9, 2020 Presidential Primary/General Primary/Special Election.  Public health concerns will likely affect In-Person Voting availability and wait times may increase due to social distancing and sanitation requirements.

The following individuals may possess or deliver an absentee ballot on behalf of a voter:

  • The voter him or herself;
  • Voter’s mother, father, grandparent, aunt, uncle, brother, sister, spouse, son, daughter, niece, nephew, grandchild, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, or sister-in-law;
  • Individual residing in the same household as the voter; or
  • Caretaker of a voter with disabilities. O.C.G.A. § 21-2-385(a)

Voters may use this box to drop off their voted absentee ballot through 7:00 PM on June 9, 2020.  

Unauthorized possession of an absentee ballot violates Georgia law and is punishable by a fine up to $10,000, a term of imprisonment up to 10 years, or both. O.C.G.A. § 21-2-574

Willfully destroying, defacing or delaying the delivery of any ballot violates Georgia law and is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000, a term of imprisonment up to 1 year, or both. O.C.G.A. § 21-2-576

NOTICE
EARLY PROCESSING OF ABSENTEE BALLOTS

Pursuant to State Election Board Emergency Rule 183-1-14-0.7-15, the Clayton County Board of Elections and Registration intends to begin processing absentee ballots cast for the June 9, 2020 Presidential Preference, General Primary and Special Elections beginning on Monday, June 1, 2020.

The opening of ballot envelopes and scanning of ballots will begin each day at 9:00 AM and conclude at 5:00 PM until completed. A sign will be posted on the front door notifying the public if there is any change to this schedule or if activities are suspended for any period. This activity will take place at the Clayton County Board of Elections and Registration Center, 7946 North McDonough Street, Jonesboro, Georgia 30236.

Early processing of absentee ballots shall be controlled, such that ballot secrecy is maintained. The collection or disclosure of any balloting information before the close of the polls at 7:00 PM on Election Day is strictly prohibited.

Any members of the public who wish to observe will be required to check-in, receive a badge, take an oath, and relinquish cell phones or other electronic recording devices prior to viewing this process.

NOTICE 

Presidential Preference Primary Postponed Until General Primary Election

(Jonesboro, GA)-Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger postpones Georgia’s Democratic Presidential Preference Primary (PPP), effective immediately, due to the public health emergency posed by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) to help reduce the risk for potential contamination for voters and poll workers.

Clayton County residents who did not cast a ballot in the PPP during the advanced voting period will have a chance to vote for the PPP during the General Primary Election, which will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2020. Ballots that have already been cast for the PPP will be counted in the General Primary Election.

Provisional Ballot Information

The Secretary of State’s Office has established a secure website and free-access telephone number for provisional ballot voters to access to determine whether their provisional ballots were counted and if not, the reason why.
