In times of emergency or disaster, EMA coordinates the response of local agencies ensuring the most appropriate resources are dispatched to the impacted area. Through its major programs, EMA works with local governments, volunteer organizations and the private sector throughout Clayton County to develop disaster preparedness plans and mitigation projects, and provide training and exercise activities. The mission of the Office of Emergency Management is also accomplished by encouraging citizens to prepare family preparedness plans and to take the necessary steps to ensure their survival for the first 72 hours after a major disaster. This will allow sufficient time for outside assistance to arrive.
