NEWS RELEASE: Books Not Bullets Literacy Initiative

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Books Not Bullets Literacy Initiative Solicitor-General Charles Brooks and Dr. Deatrice Haney Continue Partnership to end School Violence  (Jonesboro, GA) Clayton County Solicitor-General, Charles A. Brooks, is pleased to announce a new campaign to end school gun violence in partnership with Clayton County Public Schools Board of Education member, Dr. Deatrice “Dee” Haney, (District 5).  The campaign is a literacy initiative titled “Books not Bullets: Books not Violence” open to all Clayton County Public Schools second graders.  This new reading initiative is designed as a competition among all second-grade classes in Clayton County Public Schools to read as many books as possible between November 7, 2022 and January 6, 2022.  The winning class will be announced on January 27, 2022 and awarded a class set of Amazon Kids Kindle reader tablets with a 1-year subscription to download additional books for their reading pleasure.  “The goal of this competition is to equip our young readers with the greatest ammunition on earth, more powerful than any bullet, knowledge.  The adage knowledge is power is more than a cliché and if we are able to ignite a thirst for knowledge early on with our young readers and spark their imaginations […]

Kinship Care Angel Tree 2022

The Clayton County Kinship Care Angel Tree Program was started to provide less fortunate children being raised by their grandparents and other relative caregivers, with new clothing and toy items at Christmas. Angels may be adopted until December 12th. The Clayton County Youth Commission is hosting a Canned Food Drive from November 14th​ - December 5th. Donate your unexpired canned food and non-perishable food items to a location near you. Locations include the Board of Commissioners Administration Building, Jim Huie Recreation Center, Carl Rhodenizer Recreation Center, South Clayton Creation Center, Virginia Burton Gray Recreation Center, Lake Spivey Recreation Center, Headquarters Library, Forest Park Library, Lovejoy Library, Morrow Library, Northwest Library, and Riverdale Library. District Attorney’s Office Community Service Project

Join the District Attorney’s Office as we pay it forward this holiday season. The items collected will be donated to Calvary Refuge Center, located in Forest Park, GA. Items can be dropped off at the District Attorney’s office, 4th Floor, 9151 Tara Blvd., Jonesboro, GA  30236, Monday through Friday from 8 am - 12 pm and 1:30 pm - 5 pm.  Drop off deadline is January 20, 2023 #Claytonconnected

Georgia Tech Glee Club performing at Spivey Hall

The Georgia Tech Glee Club formed as an all-male group in 1906, making it the oldest student organization on campus. Composed of graduate and undergraduate students, the members of the group represent all of the Institute’s colleges.
