Strong families exist in many different
forms and circumstances, but they share similar qualities. The
Clayton County Extension Service offers programs for youth and
adults that promote the development of positive qualities for
strong families.
Effective parenting and quality
child care can positively impact the development of strong
families. What is effective parenting? What skills are necessary?
Research tells us that some approaches to child rearing tend to
result in healthier, happier families. We can't prescribe a formula
for having children grow up to be caring responsible adults. We can
identify the characteristics and practices, however, of families
that nurture their members, instill values, and create caring
communities.
PARENTING CLASSES
The ABC's of Parenting offers support and guidance to families
through a series of parenting classes that focus on topics such as
human growth and development, alternative discipline methods to
corporal punishment, limit setting, family cooperation, effective
communication and stress management.
PARENT AIDE SERVICES
Parenting education and support provided by home visiting Parent
Aides often enhances skill building, self-esteem and reduces
feelings of isolation. This service provides intensive "hands-on"
support for families in crisis. Parent Aides often work with
in-home therapists who provide family counseling.
The UGA Cooperative Extension
Service offers educational programs, assistance and materials to
all people without regard to race, color, national origin, age,
sex, or disability status.
