The Clayton
County Board of Commissioners and
Clayton County's Transportation and
Development Staff are pleased to inform the public about the
exciting transportation improvements being funded through the
Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). These projects are
just the beginning of a program that will improve the overall
effectiveness of Clayton County's transportation infrastructure.
These transportation related SPLOST projects can be categorized
into Safety Projects, Maintenance Projects and Roadway
Projects.
General Information
Safety Projects are those which will improve the overall safety
of the traveling public whether it is walking or traveling in a
vehicle. These projects include:
- The addition of sidewalks, in particular, areas with high
pedestrian traffic and schools will receive highest priority.
- Improve access and reduce traffic congestion at schools, as
well as, on streets adjacent to schools by generating engineering
studies that will recommend possible site specific improvements
such as the addition of turn lanes, lengthening existing turn
lanes, modification of school driveways and school parking lot
modifications.
- Upgrade Clayton County's Traffic Control Center (TCC) and
Traffic Communication Devices by replacing or adding equipment,
surveillance cameras, fiber optic communication cable, vehicle
detection stations, and variable message signs.
- Upgrading Roadway Signage within Clayton County to the minimum
high-intensity grade sheeting or diamond-grade sheeting which will
improve the drivers ability to identify the signs early.
- Installing School Flashers at schools.
- Installing Pedestrian Signal Crosswalks.
- Installing Traffic Calming devices for Subdivisions.
- Improving Intersections that have a high volume of vehicles
and/or accidents per day .
- The addition of guardrail.
Maintenance Projects are those
which will improve worn and substandard facilities. These projects
include resurfacing of existing paved streets, and paving existing
dirt roads.
Roadway Projects are those which
will widen or realign existing facilities. This will improve the
Level of Service (LOS) and provide for better pedestrian access.
These projects also include the new construction of roadways which
will alleviate some traffic congestion in areas.
This SPLOST program is here to
serve all of Clayton County's residents. For this reason Clayton
County has provided one more avenue of information sharing through
this web page which will include SPLOST related current events,
announcements for Public Information Meetings (PIM) and
descriptions of all awarded SPLOST projects. Continue to visit this
web page to keep informed of the transportation related SPLOST
activities.
