What is a Sample Ballot?
The Secretary of State is required
to prepare sample ballots for each election so that voters have an
opportunity to inform themselves about the candidates and issues
appearing on the ballot. A sample ballot will be substantially the
same as a regular ballot except that there will be no state seal
and the heading "SAMPLE BALLOT" replaces "OFFICIAL BALLOT".
The Secretary of States provides
each municipal clerk with sample ballots before each election. The
clerk is required to post sample ballots in each voting district,
along with the Notice of Election at least 7 days before Election
Day. The clerk may also duplicate and distribute sample ballots as
needed.
