Warden Dennis Nelson
Dennis Nelson is the Warden of the Clayton County Prison and Director of the Clayton County Refuse Control Department. Warden Nelson was appointed to his position with Clayton County in 2014. Prior to Clayton County Warden Nelson was the chief of police with the City of Metter Police Department.
Warden Nelson has served in law enforcement for the past 34 years working with several city police departments as well as Forsyth, Gwinnett and Fulton County Sheriff’s Offices. He has worked in numerous capacities including national accreditation, state certification, investigations, patrol, traffic enforcement and specialized accident investigation, community outreach, court security, jail administration, support services, records, warrants, administration, and many other areas. He has supervised, managed and/or commanded in all areas of law enforcement, including holding positions as warden, chief of police, deputy chief and chief jailer.
Warden Nelson has served on numerous state law enforcement accreditation and certification boards and is also a certified law enforcement assessor and team leader for the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) and the State of Georgia Law Enforcement Certification Program. He is also currently serving as the elected 3rd Vice President of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police. Incorporated in 1962, the GACP is one of the most respected law enforcement associations in the state. The association is made up of police chiefs, wardens, marshals and department directors and is the largest professional association for law enforcement
administrators in Georgia, and one of the largest in the country.
Warden Nelson has a degree in Criminal Justice Administration and is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officers Course as well as a graduate of the Columbus State University Command College Professional Management Program. He is also a graduate of the Georgia State University's Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange (GILEE) Program as a visiting delegate to the Nation of Israel in 2003.
Deputy Warden Randal Holsey
Randal Holsey is the Deputy Warden of Clayton County Prison and Assistant Director of the Clayton County Refuse Control Department. He has been employed in the Corrections field for the past 30 years.
Deputy Warden Holsey began his career as a Corrections Officer with Georgia Department of Corrections where he progressed through the ranks to the position of Lieutenant. He was a member and eventually the commander of one of the Statewide Tactical Squads. He later transitioned to County Corrections where he has severed as an administrator for the past 23 years.
