The Building Maintenance Department strives to maintain and
improve the condition of current (and future) facilities in order
to provide the employees and public with sound, properly
functioning buildings. In addition to on-going building
projects, the department is responsible for plumbing, lighting,
HVAC (over 1100 units), electrical, painting, pest control,
flooring, locks, gates, roofs, safety, and security, of over 256
buildings (consisting of over 3,175,988 square feet) throughout the
county. We are responsible for the maintenance of the pools,
UPS and generator units. The Department is also involved in
the design and construction of new building projects and the
renovations of current buildings.
In the first five months of 2010, we have averaged 365 work
requests each month. This number does not include the ongoing
projects where workers are assigned on a long term basis. The
top three categories of requests received are Plumbing-18%,
HVAC-15% and Light Service-13%. All of the projects and
maintenance of the county are handled by 19 employees.
In recent years, Building Maintenance has become increasingly
aware of the importance of good air quality in our
facilities. Therefore, we have begun to implement practical
procedures to ensure a healthy environment of the buildings.
This is being done through the training of emplyees in the
identification and remediation of mold, mildew and other organic
matters.
In addition, Building Maintenance has recently acquired the
critical responsibility of overseeing the installation and
maintenance of the County's surveillance cameras, Fire and
Intrusion alarm systems.
