after 35 years of service
Clayton County Fire Chief Alex S. Cohilas will
retire on Dec. 24, 2010, from a career that has spanned four
decades of public service. Cohilas will simultaneously retire from
his chief of staff position with the county.

Clayton County Chairman, Eldrin Bell
and Divine Faith Ministries International Church Senior Pastor,
Pastor Donald E. Battle, honored area law enforcement personnel in
a special ceremony on Sunday, December 5, 2010, at Divine Faith
Ministries. The sanctuary was packed to capacity for the special
Law Enforcement Day program that took place during the church's
11:00am worship service.

Drive
Clayton County Board of Commissioners
(CCBOC) has kicked off the holiday season with a toy drive for
underprivileged children (ages 6 months - 12 years old) residing in
Clayton County. The BOC will have drop off locations throughout the
county for donations. Thursday, December 16, 2010, is the last day

Clayton County Water Authority (CCWA) was named Wastewater
Collection System of the Year and Public Education Program of the
Year for Large Systems during the Georgia Association of Water

Health Expos
Clayton County's Senior Services hosted two health and wellness
expos that featured screenings, health seminars and fun fitness
workouts, designed especially for older adults. The events were
held on October 8 and October 29 at the J. Charlie Griswell Senior
Center and the Frank Bailey Senior Center. Both health expos drew
an enthusiastic crowd of maximum capacity.

Commissioner Gail Hambrick (District 2), will host a meet and
greet for Police Chief Gregory Porter from 6:30pm - 8:00pm on

Frank Bailey Senior Center located at 6218 Riverdale Road,
Riverdale, GA 30274. The event is open to District 2 citizens and

released today its 2011 list of 10 Places in Peril in the

Building) in Atlanta; John Ross House in Rossville; Harrington
School in St. Simons Island; Medical Arts Building in Atlanta;
Fairview Colored School in Cave Spring; Martin House in Columbus;

Commissioners Name Gregory Porter New Police Chief
Clayton County Board of Commissioners recently
named Deputy Chief Gregory Porter as the county's new Police Chief.
Chief Porter was selected over two other finalists, Hogansville
Assistant Police Chief John E. Pearson, Sr. and Clayton County
Deputy Chief Timothy R. Robinson.

Celebrates Volunteerism
Jonesboro- A Volunteer Appreciation Dinner was recently held at
the J. Charley Griswell Senior Center in Jonesboro, GA. Clayton
County's Senior Services Department and its community partners
honored the men and women who freely give of their time and skills
in order to help improve the quality of life for the county's
senior adult residents. This was the first year that all three
programs that operate under Senior Services have come together to
acknowledge volunteers from the various areas within the
department: the Senior Centers, the Kinship Care Center, and the
Meals on Wheels program.

September 10, 2010 - Additional $3.8 Million In HUD
Grants Awarded to Clayton County's Neighborhood Stabilization
Program
Jonesboro- Clayton County's Neighborhood Stabilization Program
(NSP) was awarded an additional $3.8 million in funding to further
reverse the effects of foreclosures in the county. The funding is
part of an additional $50,421,988 that HUD disbursed to Georgia to
help local communities throughout the state acquire, redevelop or
demolish foreclosed properties. Clayton County is third among
eligible communities in the state of Georgia for receiving the most
in HUD funds during this current round of disbursements. Read more

Clayton County, GA - Clayton County Board of Commissioners (CCBOC)
is hosting a community meeting to discuss the County's Disparity
Study that is now underway. The meeting will take place on
Thursday, August 26 at the J. Charley Griswell Senior Center,
located at 2300 Highway 138, Jonesboro, GA 30236 from 6:00pm -

August 24, 2010 - New Alzheimer's Center to Open in
Morrow, GA
Morrow, GA - A ribbon cutting ceremony for the Alzheimer's
Services Center will take place at their new location at 10:00am on
Thursday, August 26, 2010 and the public is invited attend. The
new, state of the art center is located at 7251 Mount Zion Circle
in Morrow. The construction of the new 11,000 sq. ft. facility,
which will provide adult daycare and caregiver support to low and
moderate-income persons suffering from Alzheimer's Disease and
related forms of dementia, will have the capacity to care for twice

Development- Tourism Product Development Team
Visits Historical Sites of Interest in Rex, GA & Clayton
County
Georgia Department of Economic Development, the Georgia Department
of Community Affairs, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources,
the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority, and the Georgia
Institute of Technology have united to form an inter-governmental
resource team that will assist Clayton County with creating a
tourism development plan for Historic Rex Village. The state team
spent three (3) days immersed in Clayton County history, visiting
various tourist sites, and interviewing the community. In
approximately 45 days the group will return with a historical
tourist plan linking Historical Rex Village and the county's other
tourist sites. It is the county's goal to position Clayton County
as metro Atlanta's premier historical destination spot for tourism.
