What
determines if my citation is payable or whether I must appear in
Court?
The State Court Judges of Clayton County determine whether a
citation is payable or requires a Court appearance. In creating the
"Traffic Division" the Judges drafted and signed an order setting
out what offenses were to be payable without a court
appearance.
Generally, the more serious charges are required to be disposed of
by a court appearance.
How soon after
receiving my citation can I find out the amount of the
fine?
It takes approximately 5 to 7 working days from the date a
citation is issued before it is received and processed in the
clerk's office. There will be no fine information available until
the citation has been processed.
How long do I have to
pay my fine?
You must pay your fine prior to your scheduled court date or
appear in court to speak with the Judge about paying over time.
If I choose
to pay a fine without a court appearance, what does that
mean?
By paying your fine without a court appearance, you
are actually posting a bond in your case that will be forfeited on
your court date and will serve as a final disposition in your
case.
If I am unable to
pay my entire fine at once, can I make payments?
The clerk's office can only accept full payments before your
court date. To arrange for payments over time, you must come to
court and the Judges will help you at that time.
What if I
have more than one citation?
You must pay all citations at the same time. If you are charged
with a violation that is not payable and one that is, you must
appear in court on all charges.
What are the hours of
operation for the State Court Clerk's Office?
The State Court Clerk's Office is open to accept payments from
8:30 A.M. - 4:30 P.M., Monday - Friday. However, payments over the
Internet may be made at any time.
What if I can't
find my citation on line?
If you are unable to locate your citation on line, contact the
traffic division of the State Court Clerk's Office at
(770)477-3386. Your citation will not be online if your court date
has passed or the offense requires a court appearance.
What
happens if I do not pay my citation or appear in court on my
scheduled court date?
If you fail to post a cash bond or appear in court, a notice
will be initiated to suspend your driver's license and/or a bench
warrant may be issued for your arrest.
How will I know when the Court has received my
payment?
If you choose to pay on line, your receipt will be sent to you
by return e-mail.
