Jonesboro - In honor of Georgia's Arbor Day,
the Clayton County Soil and Water Conservation District will be
sponsoring their annual tree seedling give-a-way on Friday,
February 18th starting at 12 noon and ending at 3:00 P.M. The Soil
and Water Conservation District is partnering with the Clayton
County UGA Extension Service, Master Gardener's and Keep Clayton
County Beautiful during this event. The giveaway will be held at
the UGA Extension Service Office located at 1262 Government Circle,
Jonesboro, Georgia.
The District has selected Common Apple and Pear trees for this
year's seedling give-a-way. According to Mr. Vacal Caldwell,
Chairman of the Clayton County Soil and Water, "Arbor Day gives us
such a wonderful opportunity to educate our community on the
environmental, social and health benefits of trees. Through
providing the trees to the public and them in turn planting them,
we as a team have given back to the community in which we
live."
Due to our climate, Georgia celebrates Arbor Day the third
Friday in February of each year even though National Arbor Day is
celebrated each year on the last Friday in April. The theme for
this year's Georgia celebration is "Trees: The Amazing, Renewable
Resource."

UGA/Clayton Extension Office (770) 473-5434.
