Opinions at Transportation Referendum Forum
Jonesboro - Residents of Clayton County are
invited to provide their input on a draft list of transportation
investments for the county and metro region, to be funded by a
regional, penny sales tax referendum next summer. The Atlanta
Regional Transportation Roundtable will host a forum at the Board
of Commissioners Office located at 112 Smith Street, Jonesboro, GA
from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 29.
This forum is one of 12 that will be held around the region
as the Roundtable solicits feedback from the public on the more
than $6 billion in transportation investments and are required by
law to finalize the list by October 15.
"Roundtable members have already heard from more than 200,000
citizens and have worked very hard to develop a list of
transportation investments that will give people across metro
Atlanta more travel options and reduce congestion," said Norcross
Mayor Bucky Johnson, chairman of the Roundtable. "Now we need to
hear from residents one more time so we can be sure the investments
on the list are the ones that best meet the needs of the
region."
"I feel that our citizens should be fully informed regarding the
transportation issues that are being proposed for Clayton County",
said Clayton County Chairman Eldrin Bell, a Roundtable member.
"Also, the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) values the input of
the residents that will be affected by the proposed plan. The
projects being presented should help relieve congestion and keep
existing businesses from leaving the area while luring in new
businesses. Therefore, this forum will serve as an information
gathering session for everyone. "
Attendees can view a presentation, speak with transportation
experts and can complete a survey. The presentation and survey will
also be available online by visiting www.atlantaregionalroundtable.com and can be
seen on Comcast Channel 23. For more information about the
Roundtable and the Transportation Investment Act visit www.atlantaregionalroundtable.com.
