Jonesboro - Clayton County's Department of
Senior Services will host its "One Stop Shop for Wellness" event at
two area senior centers this month. The first event will take place
at the Frank Bailey Senior Center located at 6213 Riverdale Road in
Riverdale from 10 am - 2 pm on Friday, October 14, 2011. The second
SPARC event is scheduled for Friday, October 28, from 10 am - 2 pm
at the J. Charley Griswell Senior Center, located at 2300 Highway
138 SE in Jonesboro (THE BEACH).
Both SPARC events will include free blood pressure screenings,
healthy mind and foot assessments, in addition to presentations on
developing and maintaining a healthier lifestyle. Healthcare
professionals will also be on hand providing flu and tetanus
immunizations for a nominal fee along with the coordinating and
scheduling of mammograms at the county's state of the art
outpatient imaging center, Spivey Station. For services that
require a nominal fee (immunizations), Medicare/Medicaid and some
private insurance will be accepted. There will also be plenty of
give-a-ways and door prizes available, along with free fruits and
vegetable for the first 150 to successfully complete all of the
designated screenings.
Sickness Prevention Achieved through Regional Collaboration (or
SPARC) is a community program that brings preventive health care
services to older individuals. Currently the program is being
implemented through a partnership between the county's Senior
Services Department and the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC). The
two SPARC health and wellness events are open to the public and to
non-Clayton county residents age 55 and older.
