Jonesboro -
Clayton County Board of Commissioner Gail Hambrick (District 2)
will host her annual community festival on Saturday, October 1,
2011. The event is free and will take place from 9:00am - 1:00pm at
Flat Shoals Park located at 1915 Flat Shoals Road, Riverdale, GA,
and will open with Sand Konscious African Drummers. The public is
invited to attend.
In addition to cooking and tennis demonstrations, Commissioner
Hambrick will unveil the park's newly renovated tennis court,
bathrooms, pavilion, as well as brand new playground equipment, a
state-of-the-art batting cage, and park fencing. Seniors from Frank
Bailey Center will help provide entertainment during the festival
with Zumba Dancing and Chicago-style Stepping. Other festival
events include entertainment by North Clayton High School
Drum-Line, concession row, a Community Information Center, the
Farmers Market, Clayton County Police Safety representatives, Flat
Shoals Park community partners, and a fun-filled Kids Korner
featuring a moonwalk, face painting, magic shows, a clown and much,
much more.
Commissioner Hambrick is pleased to present the completion of
this first phase of the park's renovations. Phase I upgrades were
made possible through various funding sources that include
Community Development Block Grant funds (CDBG) and SPLOST. "I am
delighted to have been instrumental in overseeing the funding,
equipment upgrades and renovations that have occurred at Flat
Shoals Park. As a strong supporter of maintaining a healthy
lifestyle, the health of my constituents is a top concern of mine.
It is one of the reasons why I partnered with the Board of Health
over a year ago to create the community garden that we will also
showcase at the festival. The garden is a plot of land located near
the front entrance of the park where individuals and subdivision
Home Owner Associations (HOAs) maintain and grow their own fresh
vegetables. I believe that the residents are deserving of a place
to visit in their community that offers various forms of outdoor
physical fitness activities, and that is not only safe, but has
quality equipment and facilities for everyone to enjoy. It is for
this reason that I am inviting everyone to come out and join me and
all of my community partners on Saturday, October 1, as we unveil
the park improvements."
