]]>Commissioner's Block Grant 2012-2013http://www.claytoncountyga.gov/news-and-events/commissioner's-block-grant-2012-2013.aspxMon, 13 Feb 2012 15:13:25 GMThttp://www.claytoncountyga.gov/news-and-events/commissioner's-block-grant-2012-2013.aspxAll applications will be submitted to the Clayton Collaborative Authority, which will submit its finding and recommendations to the Clayton County Board of Commissioners for final approval.  Please remember that in order for any organization to participate in the application process it must be a recognized 501c (3) entity and be physically located in Clayton County, Georgia providing services to Clayton County residents.

The Clayton Collaborative Authority is committed to providing applicants with assistance where necessary and appropriate. A grant application workshop will be held at the:

]]>Jekyll Island Essay Writing Scholarshiphttp://www.claytoncountyga.gov/news-and-events/jekyll-island-essay-writing-scholarship.aspxMon, 13 Feb 2012 11:39:37 GMThttp://www.claytoncountyga.gov/news-and-events/jekyll-island-essay-writing-scholarship.aspxThe Clayton County Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce its 3rd Annual Scholarship opportunity to Jekyll Island, Georgia. This scholarship is designed for 7th and 8th grade students who reside in Clayton County. Students will write a 250 word or less essay about an outdoor activity they wish to participate in (must choose from a designated list outlined by the Georgia Children's Outdoor Bill of Rights).

The Parks and Recreation Department will begin accepting applications now through April 30, 2012.

You can download the application and flyer that provides additional information about the scholarship and the trip to Jekyll Island. Information can also be found on our website (www.claytonparks.com) under the Kids Outdoors tab.

Please encourage your students or other students you may know to participate in this essay competition. This scholarship is an amazing opportunity where all expenses are paid for the 3 day trip to Jekyll Island this summer, 2012 for the 12 best essays submitted by Clayton County residents.

Join us with your brown bag lunch and learn about growing your own tomatoes.

Tomatoes are the most popular home-grown vegetable in the country. Remember how good that first juicy tomato sandwich of the year tastes? Whole books are written about growing tomatoes. You won't have to read all those books - just attend this program given by farmer Tom. Taught by Tom Bonnell, Clayton County Master Gardener.

These classes will be held at Clayton County International Park, "The Beach". Enter Park on Olympic Parkway from 2300 Hwy 138. Follow signs in park to VIP building (right at 2nd stop sign); enter VIP building through double doors facing the beach and go to 2nd floor via stairs or elevator.
